PolySteel safe rooms can be incorporated into new construction typically as a closet, pantry or utility room.  They can also be added to existing homes as a room addition or as a free standing work shop or storage building.

PolySteel's design flexibility allows easy incorporation into most plans without requiring additional design or architectural expense.

Example of a Master Bedroom
Closet - PolySteel Safe Room.

PolySteel safe rooms utilize a Lite-Deck insulated concrete ceiling system, which delivers an R-30 ceiling insulation and easy interior finish applications.  A 14-gauge steel door mounted to a cast-in-place steel frame and secured by three deadbolts offers easy access and security. These doors are usually installed so they swing inward so debris outside does not prevent evacuation once the storm has passed.  Passive air vents are installed for fresh air intake when occupied. PolySteel safe rooms are handicap accessible.

In addition to saving lives, a PolySteel safe room can also offer safety and security for your treasured belongings.  Irreplaceable family photos, important documents and other personal effects can be stored in your PolySteel safe room. With a 4-hour commercial fire rating, PolySteel offers additional protection in the case of a house fire.  And the steel door and solid concrete walls also offer the best protection from burglars.

Protecting your family from severe weather is now easier than ever. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will provide mortgage insurance that will enable homebuyers to borrow up to $5,000 for the creation of windstorm shelters. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) will insure loans made by private lenders to homebuyers.

This initiative will enable a lender to loan a homebuyer up to $5,000 more than the amount needed to buy a home, with the extra money used to pay for the cost of installing a windstorm shelter.
